Flaming Star Nebula (IC 405)
Information
IC 405, known by some as the Flaming Star Nebula, is a glowing gas and reflective dust region in the Constellation Auriga, due to ionizing radiation from the bright star AE Aurigae. The Flaming Star Nebula is approximately 1600 light-years distant.
Optics and exposure data
Telescope, Vixen R200ss 8 inch Newtonian at F4 (Fl 800mm) with a Televue Coma Corrector and aftermarket Moonlite accessories focuser.
Mount, Losmandy G11 with Gemini control electronics
Imager, Starlite-Xpress SXV-h9 using Astronomiks RGB and Schuler Ha , OIII optical filters.
Exposure data, Ha = 90 minutes total with 5 min sub exposures, OIII = 90 minutes total with 2 minute sub exposures, Blue 20 minutes total with 2 minute exposures
The image was combined using Steve Canistra's bicolor method. I modified Steves system by introducing the blue channl data seperately to enhance the blue reflection region in the nebula.
Images acquired with Astroart and aligned then combined in Maxim Dl. Final RGB composite processed with Photoshop Cs
